Nivea Creme – The Anti-Aging Skincare Cult, Bar None

Minimalist clean clear logo of Nivea Creme

You can spend a lot of money on skincare products. But you cannot spend a lot of money on the world’s probably most cultic skincare product: Nivea Creme. Because this thick white cream is so cheap, yet effective. Bar none.

Nivea Creme dates back well over 100 years – and has hardly been altered since. And did you know? Nivea comes from the Latin words “nix, nivis” and means “snow”. Literally translated Nivea means “snow white.”

Birth of a legend: the first Nivea Creme tin in 1911 (Beiersdorf)

Birth of a legend

It all started in 1911 with Eucerit, a milestone in skin care, made from purified wool fat. Eucerit, also called “the beautiful wax,” acts as an emulsifier and combines oil and water into a fine, stable mixture.

Fast rolling forward: today, a myriad of companies try to imitate the cream in the iconic blue tin. Some don’t like that there are petroleum derived ingredients in Nivea Creme. That’s right, ingredients made from crude oil.

Crude oil, however, is pure nature, composed of hydrocarbon deposits and other organic materials that were formed from the remains of organisms and plants that lived millions of years ago. Matured over ages.
